There will be an appeal in the Goole Times this week. The editor told me they have a special 'Back in Time' feature which is very popular with their readers. Hopefully it will provide any new information on Herbert Hill.
Well done Pieter. The Back in Time feature is a regular in the newspaper. That is usually where I get my information on local men who served in WW2, who are not mentioned on the local news channels. I look forward to seeing it and hope you get some feedback on it. Goole is not a large town and there will be, I am sure, many people who remember the family. Lesley
Hello Pieter I can confirm that your request for information is in the Goole Times this week Hopefully someone will come forward with details. Lesley
That's great! Thanks for the confirmation. Indeed hopefully it will provide new information. I will keep you updated.
I don't suppose you had any luck with the Goole Times Pieter? The only thing I could suggest is the Selby Times, not far from here, this is where his daughter lived. I could send you a link if you would like to ask about putting a request in their newspaper? Lesley
No indeed, I haven't had any luck with the appeal. It would be nice if you could provide me the details for the Selby times.
Sorry to hear that Pieter. I'm trying to think of other things you can do but not come up with any ideas yet. Lesley
Thank you Michael and Lesley. But I'll continue looking for new information on Herbert Hill and the other crew members.
The Presbyterian Church in Little Harbour, Canada, has a memorial book for the village fallen. Chipman Fraser is one of four men from the village who died during the World Wars. These are some pictures from Little Harbour.
Near the crash site, which is located in open grassland, is a road. Alongside the road is a small plaque which commemorated the airmen which were killed in the crash. Photos by Ed Tiebax.
