Coinciding with Remembrance time 2016, the Women's Institute at Cleator, West Cumbria are commemorating local service women who lost their lives during WW2. The plan is to hold a short service in their memory and recognise their service and sacrifice via the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's Facebook and Twitter pages.

The aims and further information about the project was featured in an article in 'The Whitehaven News' (Thursday 6 October 2016):
Cleator Moor's WW2 heroines to be remembered
    ...................

There were at least seven known service women of WW2 from the part of West Cumbria covered by Cleator W.I. who lost their lives in the war. The main areas covered are Cleator & Cleator Moor, Egremont, Hensingham, Whitehaven.
