I am looking for any information regarding the ARP in West Runton Norfolk, any documentation or photos, I am researching a Lady named Marion Sabine Barwell a retired nurse who joined the West Runton ARP in 1939 and taught and organised the first aid. I know such items are scarce but its worth a try.

    Thanks Tim

Hi, Tim. I can’t find anything about W Runton ARP, at the moment.

It appears that Marion was a bit more than a retired nurse.

Marion Sabine Barwell born July 1866 Norwich.

1911. Aged 45, she was a Hospital Matron at Deneside, General Hospital, Gt Yarmouth.

So in 1939 she must have been 73.

    Still on nurses register, 1943.

Died a Spinster, at Elcot house, Cromer rd, Sheringham on 7th March 1950.

Yes all correct, she was 73 when she joined the ARP in 1939 a truly remarkable lady, her nursing career began back in the late 1890s, served during the Boer War and WW1 , full medal entitlement RRC 1st class, QSA, KSA. 1914 star, silver war medal, victory medal MID, my thoughts are did she serve 3 years in the ARP ? to then include a defence medal to her entitlement. I am lucky enough to have her medals and am delighted to have them. WW2TALK.jpg
