Hi all, hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day. Nothing WW2 related but, A History of The Great War In 100 Moments book. Not as good as yours Drew,
Had to wait until today to receive these. But they were a present to myself. WW2/Malaya conflict awards to a Gurkha Rifleman from 3/2 GR in 1944. Looking forward to researching his service in the near future.
For those whose pockets are empty or whose bookshelves are already groaning under the strain ... available on iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04dwbwz/episodes/player
Christmas presents from the brithm household RAF Evaders by Clutton-Brock. Greasepaint & Cordite by Andy Merriman. Into The Silk by Ian Mackersey (Caterpillar Club). When You're Smiler by Nigel Smales. We Remember The Home Guard by Frank & Joan Shaw. The Times D-Day through Maps.
The only WW2 pressie I received from the kids was Sniper Elite 3 for the Xbox 360. http://www.rebellion.co.uk/games/sniper-elite-3 Even though I can't get on the Xbox for the kids so I haven't a clue what it is like But if it is as good as Sniper Elite 2 I will be more than happy
I got this from my better half. At first I thought he was indulging my WW2 interest but I'm now wondering if he's dropping hints about life with me...
My youngest daughter bought me a garden leaf blower. Alongside this she got me some tissues in the form of £50 & £20 & £10 notes. See below. This was so I can re-enact the Micky Flanagan joke from his O2 Tour last year:
The fishwife finally listened & bought not one piece of 'amusing' shit. Lovely. She even went daringly off-piste and got me some unexpected adjustable ring spanners. They're quite good. Nothing WW2 either, thankfully. I shall buy that myself. I have a Christmas impact driver & little drill, exactly as specified and, errr, picked up by me & used for a couple of months.. Impact drivers rock. Well, they sort of rotary really, but they rock too.
Just in case forum members are shocked by the mention of anything DIY or are indeed mystified by the mention of it. Impact Driver Industrial quality impact driver with switchable forward and reverse screwdriver rotation. When the impact resistant handle is struck with a hammer the downward force is converted by the impact driver's internal mechanism into a powerful high torque screwdriver rotation action. Ideal for ensuring fasteners are securely tightened and for freeing stuck fasteners. Hex drive nose pieces can be removed to allow use with 1/2" square drive impact sockets.
Close, but no cigar. Electrical one. Same principle. More general purpose. Exploding screws. Shattered bits.
VP "Same principle. More general purpose. Exploding screws. Shattered bits." That sounds like a very exciting Christmas morning! Regards Tom
It's a bit impractical, but I got what I hoped for - a manual grinder for coffee beans. I only make coffee on the weekends, when I have lots of time, so that's all right. It takes a few minutes to grind enough beans for my moka pot, but that gives me something to do while the kettle boils.
