The last WW2 movie I watched was the Battle of Britain on BluRay - an old favourite. I have A Bridge Too Far, again on BluRay, lined up next.

I know this is sacrilege to some but I have often hoped they would do some remakes of these old war movies. That said knowing Hollywood they would probably not do them justice.

Looking forward to Peter Jackson's Dambusters - I think?!

Was pretty bored this afternoon. I looked through all the DVDs I have at hand and decided to Watch The Devil's Brigade. Not the most accurate film ever, but interesting enough.

Just watched a very odd Battle of Britian type movie ,but in its 1960s way worth a go ? Eagles over London , complete with Spanish 109s marked up a British and yes Spitfires with Luftwaffe markings ! but some interesting views of 1960s London

Not strictly WW2 ,but just been watching the original B/W TV series the Saint and more than a few references to WW2 ,a few Jeeps used and some other interesting WW2 vehicles on display ,but one particular episode concerned the French Resistance in Paris during the war , in it one of the actors mentions the Saints service with the FFI during the war !
Also been watching the John Paul Belmondo film Weekend at Dunkirk worth watching with some good kit on display.

Just watched "Carve Her Name With Pride". The story of SOE operative Violette Szabo. I enjoyed it so much I ordered the book as well.

I believe her daughter has written a book on her mothers life and tackles the subject as to if she was tortured and assaulted when held by the Gestapo , my one criticism with the film is that the English countryside does not stand in to well as the area of France she was captured in , and for what's its worth I still believe she should have got a VC ?

You need to buy the DVD on Amazon it's the weirdest thing Spitfires with German markings and the Spanish 109s with RAF markings! but the views of 1960s London are intresting

    Hesmond,

Correct. The book written by her daughter Tania is called "Young, Brave and Beautiful" but is very difficult to find and very expensive ($300+ on ebay). I agree with you on the VC.

Thanks ,it's odd about the VC ,her actions were in the face of the enemy ,she does seem to have sacrificed her self to allow he companion to escape ,I would like to have seen the reasons given why the VC was turned down?
On the film front last night gave Square Peg with Norman Wisdom a go ,and must admit there is some excellent kit on display ,and today a D Bogarde film set in India WW2 he's a pilot who marries a Japanese girl bit of a tear jerker ,but again some interesting kit and parts shot in the Red Fort and around Delhi which is interesting .

Went to the local remainder shop in St Omer ,has some interesting DVDs at excellent prices and a few historical and WW2 ones at knock down prices , so recently picked up a armful which included one called Spoils of War , managed about 10 minutes awful film ,but did pick up Far Away, Korean film based on a Korean solider picked up on D Day by the Americans, and in a boxed set Sword of Honour with Daniel Craig so not all bad .

Korean films are very well made....on par with Saving Private Ryan I'd say. A few others worth watching are...'The Front Line', '71-Into the Fire' and 'Brotherhood'...all true stories about the Korean war and all brilliant....if you don't mind reading subtitles that is!

On a seperate note....the other day i watched a film called 'Cross of Honour' (or it's alternative name...'Into the White'). It's a true story about a the crews of a british and german plane, who shoot each other down in a remote wintery Norway, and end up taking shelter in the same hut and struggle for survival. It stars Rupert Grint form Harry Potter.
