Hi folks, There is a well-known photograph of Nagase, the Japanese man who interrogated Eric Lomax when he was a POW. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the badge is he is wearing on the right-hand breast of his tunic. It has 5 white stars on it but is not a rank badge as far as I can tell. Here is a link to the image on the Pinterest website - https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/295759900504248874/ I am interested to know as I have one of these badges. Many thanks for looking.
Thought I'd ask someone with actual expertise. https://twitter.com/adachi_aus/status/1571954560427790336?t=Tz2O0Kpy79vl_uw6JAh7_Q&s=19
Hi Von Poop, That's great, thank you. I have had that badge sitting in a 1914 Christmas tin since the late 1980's and could never find out what it was for. It was only at the weekend when I was at my dad's that I found it again and decided to have another go. The last time I tried was pre-internet, so had ended up trawling through Military insignia books in the library! It's great to finally know what it was issued for. It's not like the usual Japanese rank badges and I think when I was first given it the thought was that it was Chinese. Many thanks, Stewart
Hi, My one looks very much like the top left badge you have posted. It's great to see other examples and to know what it was issued for. I have never seen another example anywhere else. Are they uncommon, or have I been looking in the wrong places?
Lomax gave an affidavit which is with the Outram Road case (Kew ref WO 235/975) . See summary here: https://www.legal-tools.org/doc/238354/pdf The reason he was in Outram Road, Singapore, is related to this case: Kew ref WO 235/822. See summary here: https://www.legal-tools.org/doc/569ab3/pdf
