    Hi,
I have come across from my Great grandfather photographs taken from his time in the RASC in Egypt, Italy, Holland and Germany (around the rhine). And wondered if anyone knows this building which is annotated 'German Army GHQ'. With it having a iconic look, and two decorative horse statues, if anyone would know it's location or history?
    thanks,
    Owen

Would have thought this location would be easy to ID but it appears not.
I've spent hours trying to work it out.
Surprised our German members haven't IDed it yet.

Just as I'm surprised that you didn't succeed - after all, you're the uncrowned demigod when it comes to such searches.
(That's why I didn't even try to find out) ;-)
I can try, but I would need something more precise than "around the Rhine"

    regards

    Good work.
The building at the end must have work done to it as it not quite the same here .
It has 6 windows but the roofline has been altered.

Wow, you guys are good. Thank's so much. Interesting they changed the design of the building front, presumably during the war. Much appreciated.

No it was like it in 1937.
See the date of the You Tube film & also translate the wiki article.
I think they got the date wrong on the Horst Wessel house caption.
Edit. See the oldthing.de link. The back of the postcard is postmarked 1937 too.

Guessing it was remodelled by the Messers RAF, Demolition Works around 1943?

    All the best
