Any clues on the back ? Why do you think it is Normandy ? Going by openneck battledress I would have said post-war somewhere on the north German coast as it's a fisherman.
Their is an inscription behind the soldier and some of it is visible. Perhaps a better scan of the text will reveal something. The last line appears end with 1901.

Well done Tony. I tried for lifeboat memorials but didn't see the Holland one. (I bet Owen is miffed; he's usually much quicker off the mark, ha ha)
Wow, I'm impressed! I thought he took the photo on R and R in Normandy. Didn’t think about the uniform so much. But Holland makes sense, he was posted there in 1946. Thank you very much for your help! Chris
