How can I find out which company my uncle was in? According to his service records he was in the 5th Battalion East Yorks on DDay but it doesn't mention which company. I will be doing Paul Reeds war walks this summer and it would be useful to know.

Was he captured at any point? If so it may mention the Company in the Regt's missing men file. If not then the only other place I can think of is one of the units war diaries if your lucky. I would guess around 10% will have at least one nominal roll in the files that cover a units service from 39 to 45.

    Hi Andy,
He was Missing believed KIA from the 11 to 16 June 1944 but survived would that be of any significance?

I suspect not (because he wasn't captured and investigations could have started later than the dates given) but like everything at Kew you never know until you look.

If it was me I would start with the Home Forces diaries from the battalion before they deployed overseas.

    Thanks Andy,

He was wounded (3 times) are there any medical or hospital records that may help?
