Ok; Inspired by Paul Pariso's " Feather Men " thread .....

Anyone else read this one? By Terence Strong. If ye haven't? I'd imagine Google will prevail? If ye have ~ back in the day ~ ye'll probably see why I consider this one of The top five novels I've ever read.

Five? Hell!; Only Plummers " Nathan " compares, to my mind, for The Read of All Time! And I don't think Nathan is quite 'On Topic' around here!

    Hello Steve,
Just read a few "reviews" on Amazon of the book you mention and it does sound good. I might have to add that one to my "Non-Arnhem" list :D

Paul; First thinking I'd go look at some others reviews of the book, on Amazon, I soon found myself sucked into the 'Back catalogue': I'm mortified / delighted to see our Terrance never seems to have stopped writing!

I'd never heard of " White Viper " or anything since. Read everything up to that one, then life got in the way. Thus it was all I could do to stop myself from snapping up copies of 'the rest'. I would, only I simply have so much on here that I just haven't time to sit about reading books as I'd like to.

Saying that; I appear to be a bit top heavy on Einzatsgruppen / Waffen SS books right now. As a change from all that, I have the seemingly Legendary " Free Fall " tucked away here. I like a bit of SAS, be it fiction, faction or fact.

Quite like a spot of Chris Ryan, actually. He certainly pens a good story. Strong was simply around a decade or few before him. And that's not to compare the two. I just appreciate a good read and don't concern myself with the 'politics'. But, WHD has always stuck as The outstanding 'SAS Story'.

Tom; Ye doing my head in here! I'm almost certain I've read " The Chinaman "! Even the name, Stephen Leather rings a bell. Going back a few years again, aren't we?

I have this thing fixated in my head; Something about a boat? Below decks. More a barge than a navel vessel ....? Big one on one combat scene there? Is that how it starts ~ or am I shot away? Can't get Van Lustbaader out of my head at the same time, see?

    Hi Steve,

Yep must be me showing my age lol anyway if your after a better read then Ryan look for Gerald Seymour's The Journeyman Tailor much better then any of Ryan's books and I have read a few... And once had the pleasure of meeting Ryan but hey thats another story... And The Chinaman he was VC and they kill his wide and daughter so he goes after them think it was the IRA but not sure....

Steve I would list lots of books that I've read over the years up to about 530 so far..

    Cheers

Tom; Sorry, mate. Been busy all day and night. Now I'm shattered and only found this one again through looking. (Power failure earlier means I've lost what ever history the Portal saved for me).

Anyway ... 'Chinaman' was a VC, eh? Damn! Still can't get Eric V L'B out of my mind on this one. It's like Paul pointed out on his Feather Men post: Time gets so ye lose sight of the markers. Did I read the book I'm thinking of thirty years ago? Or was it fifteen? Ten?!

Thing is, Van Lustbaader (Or how ever the hell the author of " The Ninja " is spelled) incorperates a fair bit of WW2 stuff into his first book. I know, for sure, I read at least his first two ~ or three? Then it all became a bit esoteric, almost to the point of science fantasy. But, I still have this image of an opening fight taking place in a confined space, below decks.

IRA? Can't say I 'remember' their involvement. Can't, come to that, imagine them having anyone capable of putting up such a hand to hand against " Steven ", of 'Ninja' fame. Which only leads me to think, again, it Was an unrellated book I read. " The China Man ". Must ask my Bro'. He's always been in the habit of slipping me cracking reads.

" JT " ? Bang up a review / Synopsis. Something to remind me. I'm in the mood for a change from Waffen SS and wouldn't mind a few more novels on my shelf.

Now I simply Must pass out!
