    The following Canadian war dairy page for the Essex Scottish Regiment reports a lucky event. Who was this officer and did he make it through the war? Lucky Cameronian Officer.jpg

    34291 Lt. Col. Richard Montagu VILLIERS 9th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)

    10th September 1905 - 8th August 1973

    10th July 1944 2230 2300 This information was reported to Bn HQ and Coys ordered to "STAND TO" About this time Lt Col RM Villiers was wounded by shrapnel from a mortar bomb on the forehead. He still carried on commanding the Bn.

    The dates appear to differ, two lucky escapes?

    According to the Cameronians WD's He was wounded 10th, between 2000 and 2230 hrs and his command was taken over by Major Davies from the 2nd Glasgow Highlanders, at 0130 hrs on 11th.
