Hi, I am trying to find out about William Patrick O'Connor O'Reilly, born 2nd Jun 1883 (USA) and died 1952 Mombasa. His father, William Patrick O'Reilly (born in Ireland) was a draper in Staffordshire. WPOC served in either the 5th Irish Lancers or 12th Royal Lancers in South Africa (Boer Wars) and France (WW1). Any help as to how I might find out more about his military service would be much appreciated. Thanks, Gordon
There are two printed regimental books see pg. 26 in an auctioneers catalogue: https://whytes.auctioneersvault.com..., LITERATURE & COLLECTIBLES 21 APRIL 2012.pdf When searching online use both "5th Irish Lancers" and "6th Royal Irish Lancers" it appears different results come back. Wiki indicates there is a regimental museum for its successor unit in Nottinghamshire.
Hi, Is anyone able to identify the regiment of the chap (1883 - 1952), in the attached photo, please?. Possible regiments that have been suggested are: 12th Royal Lancers 5th Irish Lancers Thanks, Gordon
You can sometimes be fortunate and find something here... - 9th/12th Royal Lancers Museum Particularly, often I see records there that relate to individuals Boer Wars) and France (WW1), but also WW2 and BAOR. Sometimes it can help immensely if you have an individual's service number (as an assist to narrow things down) Re. O'Reilly... - 9th/12th Royal Lancers Museum
I would suggest magnifying the collar badges (if possible) and posting that image on the Great War Forum. It looks a lot earlier than WW2.
