I'm off to the World at War event at Fort Nelson tomorrow, so I thought I would start a thread in anticipation of some pics and a report!

Apparently the grand finale at 3pm will see British, American, Russian and German soldiers battling for control of the fort... fanciful, but should be interesting.

I'm also going to meet up with the Solent Overlord Executive, a military vehicle club who put on an annual D-Day vehicle show at Horndean every year. Expect some pictures of vehicles ;)

I'd be interested just to see what directions they came from!

And who'd launch the first nuclear strike ..... ;)

Is it on Monday? As I'm down there then.

Ironic that the Horndean MV show had been going on walking distance from my front door, but my interest in MVs only really took off after I stopped living there .

It is on Monday. I'm going up there in a minute as I've just finished dinner. I've seen a few interesting vehicles going by, including a non-WW2 Humber Pig, and a lightweight Lanny....

Well the re-enactment wasnt as contrived as it sounded! They kept the Russkies out for the main event. The scenario was based around a fort on the Franco-German border in late 1944. British have taken the fort. Germans sneak in and capture it, even shooting a Brit officer in cold blood! They then set up an ambush. Brit patrol return to the fort, Devons in a Half-Track and Hampshires on foot. Germans take out the half-track with a Panzerschrek - god was that flashbang loud! Infantry then de-bus and return fire. From somewhere an American patrol comes along to lend a hand, as well as a British Airborne anti-tank Gun and an RA Sexton SPG. Eventually the Allies regain control of the fort.

Pretty unreal scenario, but what the hell... I enjoyed watching it and the hundreds of others seemed to as well, especially the kids.

I also managed to see a dramatic portrayal of Operation Frankton, with a chap acting as Marine Bill Sparks telling the story in his own words. A little OTT at times, but again, the kids loved it.

Bargain couple of hours for a fiver... plenty of vehicles and weapons to look at.

    Pics to follow...

Anyone photo-shop that skirmish line of Tommies with some smoke & ruins into the background. It'd look really good then.
    Nice pics James.
