Went to Russia, when England played in Moscow two years ago, god damm nightmare, and was in Qatar when we played Brazil their last year, in a country smaller than London.

One extreme to the other.. Vodka galore in Russsia, and a near dry state in Qatar. and thats after having to go to Brazil......

There must have been some serious backhanders going on for Russia to get the vote.

And when I say backhanders, I mean suitcases bulging with cash.

Putin stayed away quoted as saying;-
In televised remarks Putin told his Cabinet: "I would have liked to have gone myself but in these conditions I have decided not to travel... so that they can make a decision without any pressure from the outside.

"I would like to note that recently we have watched with disappointment as an obvious campaign was being unleashed against members of the Fifa executive committee," said Putin in televised remarks to the cabinet.

"They are being smeared in dirt and compromised. ... I interpret this as (a method of) unfair competition. We believe that such methods of competition are entirely unacceptable."

Perhaps he was just saving the air fare on a forgone result/decision.

A FIFA event has no place in a free, democratic country. The idea that a commercial organisation (one which refuses to pay taxes at that) can regulate what colour shirts are worn to a football match and what is sold where by legitimate traders, on pain of prison sentences is abhorrent.

I'd already decided that if Belgium / Holland won, I was going to have a months holiday in an England free of football supporters.

Who's going to be the first English representitive to ask 'Bung' Blatter for his money back ?
