Hello and welcome to the forum

Gnr. is the abbreviation for Gunner, the Royal Artillery equivalent to the rank of Private.

If you could post his Army Number that might help others to check various record sources for you.

Best of luck with your research.

(edit, thread title amended to Gnr)

    Joanna.

Do you mean gunner rather than general?

    Two very different beasts.

    OMG!! Thank you....

I bought they at a table top sale. The seller, said the family was putting them in a skip, so I can only assume she may now be dead??

I couldn’t believe a family would destroy something so wonderful!! I have his hat badge too!!
