I have been in and out of all different types of AFVs over the years but always wondered when the interior paint scheme changed from white to silver, who decided on the change over etc. Was it something adopted from the USA.

I feel fairly sure that this must be documented in one of Mike Starmer's camouflage books but unfortunately I am away from my library for the holidays.

Interiors were silver (aluminium) starting with the Medium Mk II but during the War changed to white or cream and silver was readopted post war. I believe that the change to cream began with the Crusader and post war Centurions were silver. The reason seems to have been simply a shortage of aluminium powder and the aircraft industry took priority.
