Hi Hugh, Thats brilliant we didnt even have a reg number for him thank you so much, my only problem now is how to copy the image as it doesn't paste onto my word document....any thoughts? Doreen
Hello Dorren, The reg number you mention is for the ship and not Robert. Not sure about how to change the Jpeg file to Word - I can give it to you in PDF form if it would help. I would suggest this is more likely to be his seaman's pouch BT 372/370/66 and if correct his Discharge number is R237219. This file along with his CRS 10 [service record from January 1941] BT 382/634 would be the files you want. The files are best obtained by a visit to the archives or there are a couple of guys on here who will obtain them for you at a reasonable cost. It would be a tad expensive and difficult to obtain online. Regards Hugh
I have managed to convert the Jpeg file to a Word document - please see attached. I can still send the PDF if required. There may be a report of what happened to Robert in the ship's official logbook for 1944 which is held at Kew in piece BT 381/2767 under the ship's official number 135197. You would need to look in the narrative but feel free to ask if you need further advice about this. I would be reasonably sure his body was recovered and I would presume the GG Hospital referred in the document would be Gareloch General Hospital, although there isn't one there today. Regards Hugh
Thanks for the PM Hugh. And got it no bother in word document. Probably come back to you to talk me through how to find sea related documents. tried doing it when researching army relatives... the numbers just baffle me. But I suppose once you understand them it's quite easy Doreen
Apologies for jumping in on this topic - I have just joined and I'm trying to trace my Dads WW2 Naval records however, I dont have his service number. His name was Thomas Peachornby DOB 9/03/1923 I know he was based at USNAS Brunswick Maine USA (I think this was a training base for the Fleet Air Arms) He was certainly there in December 1943 - I have a V-MAIL he sent to his Mother - He also served on HMS Foam - I have christmas card with this ship on which he sent to his sister. Any help would be appreciated
Hiya, im also jumping in, i know John Spiller worked in the engine rooms, but he was also the one driving the comadore around. All i know is he boxed and spent all his time in this area before being allowed to leave to look after his twins.
