WW2 Walter RATO motor

    Took some close up photos this weekend of the Walter 109-500 Rocket motor used to assist aircraft into the air.

    This one was fitted to an Arado 234 Twin jet.

    Its duration was only 30 seconds but was extremely effective.
    A very dangerous combustion material was used, like its big brother the Me 163 rocket motor, which sometimes resulted in explosions and not rocket assistance.
