WWII Navy Service Record Assistance

    Thanks for that, Hugh. S.O.A.G.G. 1. right there on a period document pretty much confirms it should be G.G.1 at both dates on the record.

    I did also hear back from the Navy service record department gave me a response to the possible G.5.1 transcription error. They replied:

    and...

    I'm not sure why they are mentioning Force 'J' as the man in question was most certainly attached to Force 'G', HMS Nith for Op. Neptune. The only assumption I can make is that he was *possibly* attached to Force 'J' prior to Operation Neptune during "Lent: Captain G.5.1. [sic] 23 Dec '43 -- 31 Mar 1944". Unfortunately they were not able to offer much assistance regarding 'G.5.1.' either. I'm just going to assume it is G.G.1 as per the rest of this thread as that makes the most sense.
