    Hello to you all
Looking to find some or any details of my uncle (fathers brother) who told nothing before he died

William (Bill) Frank Hanright No. 24050 Private, 2NZEF, 24 Battalion
Who was captured and taken as POW in Greece 1941 during 2NZEF deployment there
NZ Defence Force records that I have are very basic and minimal.
They simply show embarkation and disembarkation dates ( NZ, Egypt and Greece) and nothing else at all
Uncle Bill (according to family rumours) seemingly spent at least 3 years on a farm in Grelle (sp?) Yugoslavia
Imprisoned with other NZ, Australian, and UK POW's
Then took part in the "Long March", across continental Europe
Finally released and returned to UK to a Manchester area hospital before being repatriated to NZ in 1946

Can anyone who has any details about uncle Bill or can direct me to an online web site then thank you in advance

    Kind Regards

    Hello there Tricky Dicky
Any chance of you PM'ing me.
I simply don't know how to send a PM to you?

I checked out ICRC and found absolutely nothing
    Where to from here ?
    Kind regards

You can obtain his service records - Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK

Did you apply for his records from ICRC - they take a while

There are many books on 'The Long March' and quite a few threads on this site - he may be mentioned in them.

Have you contacted his Regimental museum or Veterans Association in NZ
