Ordnance depots

  1. Hi there,
Hope all are fine. I checked several ORBAT files of 21st and 15th Army groups of TNA and found that there are several types of ordnance/ ammunition depots: Base Ordnance Depot (BOD) (WO212/248, WO33/2083), Base Ammunition Depot (BAD) (WO212/248, WO33/2083), Advanced Ammunition Depot (WO204/10223) and Forward Ordnance Depot (FOD) (WO204/10223). Home army ORBAT (WO212/134) says, Eastern Command had one Central Ordnance Depot (COD) and several Central Ordnance Sub-depots; Northern and Scottish Commands had Command Ordnance Depot and Command & District Ammunition Depots. However, I searched to get the WE of such Ordnance depots in Trux 21st AG model thread, but the thread does not have WE of these Ordnance depots. Can anyone guide me about the organisation, functionalities and WE of these Ordnance depots.
    Thanks in advance
    Shams

    Shams,
If you can find a copy of this book by Major J Lee-Richardson it has a wealth of info on RAOC and it's depots. Doesn't have any orbats I'm afraid but describes their operation in some detail - I was surprised to learn the Ordnance ran the mobile bath and laundry units!

  3. Dear Tolbooth
Thanks for your reply. Certainly this book will help me to understand the functionality of these depots. I do not have the book, but I will look into internet to buy or to get pdf. However, I am interested to know the organisation and war establishment table of these depots.
    Regards

Appears to stem from WW1. The supply of clothes which included clean clothes was seen as an ordnance function so they ended up running the laundry and the delousing equipment. This in turn meant that they had the capacity to produce lots of hot water so they got bath duties as well. In WW1 the US Army also gave the responsibility to Ordnance but I don't know if this still applied in WW2

I always liked the story of Lord Curzon, a man who would make Reece Mogg look like a dangerous radical modernist, who after an inspection visit to an Army bath house remarked "I never realised what white skins the working classes could have"

The Trux site has the WEs for Advanced Ammunition Depot and Advanced Ordnance Depot as well as other smaller RAOC units.

  14. Hi Keith,
May I ask you how do I get all pamphlets, please? I am interested to go through the pamphlets. Even I want to pay via PayPal if you help me to get the digitized scan of all pamphlets, please.

I bought most of them from ebay a few years ago, not in one lot but one by one. There are 100s of pages so i cant scan them, not good to flatten the books.
