3311184 Pte James McDonald HLI The Above named was KIA at the Battle of Keren on the 26th March 1941,he was in the 2nd Battalion HLI, theres nothing I can find in Newspapers Online as to his Place of Birth. According to the Casualty reports four HLI men were killed that day. theres no clues on the CWCC site. Any pointers would be helpfull. thanks max
You might need to log in here Advanced Search Unless he appears on a family tree on the other subscription sites then you will need to go via, or hope someone has access to Scotlandspeople - have checked Ancestry and cant find a tree for him TD
I tried Scotlands People cant find him on the casualty returns. Thank you for looking I could only find RAF casualties in Scotlands People.
The Scottish National War Memorial and the Roll of Honour both have him as born in Glasgow, which makes sense with HLI, struggling to further narrow him down, there seem to be a lot of James McDonalds
Thanks for looking. I couldnt find him on Scotlands people under the service returns deaths. But as you say theres multiples of James McDonald. Very good of you to assist Regards Max

Hi Max, i owned the group to the above soldier for a long time. And i could not find anything on him in the papers.
His death is recorded on Scotland's People under MACDONALD, same as Scottish National War Memorial. CWGC is McDONALD. So, who's correct? The SP entry doesn't tell you more than you already know. Oddly, I paid for a copy a some time in the past. I've no idea why.
Yes I know what you mean. I paid for one from Scotlands People and it tells you only the basics Thanks for your input Max
