Sorry to be a parasite, but does anybody have either of these two books on their shelves?
    • Final Records of The Buffs: 1948-67 by Gregory Blaxland.
    • The History of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) IV: The Close of Empire 1948-1968 by John Baynes.
I can no doubt buy copies, but the first is pricey, and for the past year the international mail has been an absolute horror show; what used to take a week or two now runs to multiple weeks or beyond (via airmail).

My last delivery was routed from the UK via France and China to reach South Korea!
    • In the first book, I'm fishing for a copy of the twelve-page first chapter.
    • In the second, the sixteen-page first chapter.
As ever, my bookshelves are at the disposal of anybody who needs anything, and I'll happily return the favour--it's mostly generals' biographies and unit histories for 4th Indian Division.

    Does not compute, mate.

If we're not here for stuff like this, I dunno what we are here for.

    Anyway, sorry, carry on.

Yeah, perhaps 'parasite' was laying it on a bit thick, but I do sometimes feel that I ask more than I offer.

    All appreciated.

I think not that you ask more than you can offer! Have you not thought about sending a email to forum member dryan67, aka, David? He may well have them? I've got the previous Historical Records of the THE BUFFS 1919-48 by C.R.B. Knight. Which battalion are you after when it comes to the Buffs? I've not read the chapter XVIII-1939-1948. It may be of use in parts?

I would be surprised if he does not have both books? How much is pricey?

    Regards,
    Stu.

Am now kicking myself and searching my inbox.

David sent me an inventory of his library, but I completely forgot about its existence...

Edit: alas, he has only the earlier volumes of both!

James, its not like you at all too not find a (bargin!) You may have been a sleep on the job? The first one is far from pricey. How does (£19.00) grab you? It is on sale in the UK via Amazon. It may take shipping via France, China, North Korea, the South Pole, & then South Korea. You may get it a month, or two.. Good luck with that one.

Don't complain that much.. Bought a few books from France, within the last couple of months & its taken a month to be delivered. See the book below. It should do the trick. Don't ask for a link? I don't do them.

The farewell years: The final historical records of the Buffs, Royal East Kent Regiment (3rd Foot) formerly designated the Holland Regiment and Prince George of Denmark's Regiment, 1948-1967; 1 January, 1967, by Gregory Blaxland.

    Will take a look, Stu.

    Thanks.

Edit: Ex-libris 'Good' condition. A bookseller once told me: if it's 'good', it isn't.

I think the problem for me with Amazon is that they've started 'filtering results by location'. It defaults me to Korea and only displays marketplace results for those books that the seller approves overseas delivery. If I change my delivery address, I get different results.

I've got Volume III of the Cameronians of the (Scottish Rifles). Another tidy book by the Brigadier C.N. Barclay, C.B.E., D.S.O. He also did a history of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment.

Relatives in the UK? Can you not ask them to buy it? You know what i mean.. Ask the bookseller to take some examples of the pages & then email them to you. Its a thought that you will have done in the past in normal times.

How much of a mint book do you want for 19 sheets? You have been in this game for long enough to understand that every book you buy is not going to be in the condition it was first printed in. I quite like some of the books that are well used. I was talking to another forum member the other day & I sent him a link on three books that cost (£200.00.) 600 pages in all.

He was rather pleased of the quality that he received. Original copies. I've asked him to get his decent camera out & start copying it.

    Regards,

    Stu.

Oh, yes, I can get it sent on to me no problem, it's just that I seem not to always get all the search results, so I didn't know it was there.

Perhaps you're right on the quality and I'm being fussy. If so, it might be because I'm currently in the middle of a dispute with a bookseller who mailed a 500-page hardback to me in nothing more than brown wrapping-paper with zero padding or envelope (after overcharging me for postage anyway!).

The whole thing arrived (literally) ripped open with all four corners bashed in--which was completely predictable.

I'd already requested that she please do her best with the padding, yet she completely ignored my message.

What can i say? Did you pay for it on your Credit card? That stinks! Anyway of slagging this bookseller off on this forum, or any other? Which bookseller was it, & more to point how much did you pay for it? That has only happened to me once when a bookseller sold me a book in a condition that was not advertised. I did get it.

Here is the other book that you asked for in your opening post. See the files below.

History of the Cameronians The Close of Empire, 1948-68 V4. ISBN:Q304937452 / ISBN 97804937455. Published by Cassell, 1971 in Hardcover. You can get it from Nugget Box (PBFA) Stafford, UK. Via AbeBooks.Co.UK. Its a first edition which is going for £25.00 & shipping is free within the UK. It looks in pretty good condition...

    Stu.

The book was only £20, but I was charged another £20 for postage (which the stamp revealed as costing £16).

I'll message you the bookseller's name.

I think I'm going to have to buy this Cameronians book, which is a pity when I'm only interested in sixteen pages (although the next section on Malaya could conceivably be good...)
