    Thanks for sharing.

Just to clarify - they are Scots Guards Training Squad Photographs from The Guards Depot rather than Battalion photographs. There were in excess of 650 men in a Battalion but approximately 30 in a Training Squad. Do you know an approximate year for the photographs?

    Thanks for the sharing.

You have not posted the medal images in the correct order of wear.

From the middle of the chest outwards (worn on the left breast) it should be 1939/45 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal and War Medal.

You should obtain his service file from MOD to see his full service history -

Request records of deceased service personnel

    Steve

  14. I wasn't aware of the correct order....
    Many thanks...

  15. Thanks for that information. I wasn't up to speed with regards to the type of photos those were. I was wondering with the PT instructor in the photos.
His record of service states 20th May 1943 until 14th November 1945. He was captured in February 1944 so I would guess around Autumn 1943?

  16. "I escaped for 2 days with Private Jack LUCK, 14 Grosvenor Avenue Canonbury, London, N.E. Escaped from Gorzke."
After reading this yesterday I asked my Dad and he told me that my Papa recalled to him that he did escape and decided there was nowhere to go really so went back in. We never knew who he had been with at the time. I wonder what happened to Pri ate Jack Luck after the war?

  17. This was found amongst my Papa's war memories.
Parcel Day written by Corporal Devlin (Scots Guards) and Corporal Bradley (Grenadier Guards).

Cpl DEVLIN was likely L/Cpl 2699986 J DEVLIN 1st Scots Guards taken POW in Tunisia 23rd April 1943. POW at Stalag 4C (at the same time as my relative 2695279 Patrick Francis DEVLIN 1st SG who was wounded and POW Mo I Rana, Norway, 17/18th May 1940). He would likely be in one of the many work camps attached to 4C.

Cpl Bradley was likely L/Cpl 2621473 R Bradley 5th Grenadier Guards taken POW in Italy (Anzio?) 9th February 1944. POW at Stalag 11A - again likely in a work camp.

Devlin & Bradley may have been in the same camp at the time that they composed their poem but POW were moved around from time to time.

    Hi,

I see that the above quote is from Post #6 in this thread.

On the basis that your grandfather and Jack Luck were both in Stalag 11A then he is Pte 6209238 J I Luck Middlesex Regiment as per the German POW lists. He was serving with 2/7th Battalion Middlesex Regiment when taken POW in Italy (Anzio) 4th February 1944.
