  2. Hello Ana,

    Welcome to the forum!

Do you have any information at all about this photo? Otherwise the scope of the research looks enormously broad, unless someone has seen it before...

Dear Ana, I think you will need the help of members "Dave55", "TTH" and "Slipdigit" with this one, as I'm sure it will prove to be a military camp in the dear old US of A.

And as Michel states above, without any further clue(s) it is more than a needle in a haystack (see link below).

US Military Bases - Air Force Bases, Army Bases, Navy Bases, Marine

Good luck with all your searching.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Thanks for thanking the time to reply. All the information I have is:
    PFC HQ DET SCU 1916
    US ARMY 1942-1943
I'll dig more to see if I can find something else.

  5. PFC HQ DET SCU 1916 = Private First Class Headquarters Detachment SCU 1916

No idea what SCU 1916 stands for. Possibly something like a School of Cavalry Unit. Must dig deeper

It was apparently located at Camp Lockett, California, together with 10th and 28th Cavalry:

  6. SCU = Service Command Unit
    Source: CMH_Pub_11-4-1.pdf page 133

PFC HQ DET SCU 1916 = Private First Class Headquarters Detachment Service Command Unit Number 1916

Therefore most probably a group photo of all the Privates First Class in HQ Detachment from SCU 1916, shot at Camp Lockett.

A nice page about Camp Lockett:

  9. In view of the info on the links above, the photo is even more probably a photo of all SCU 1906 personnel, held by a guy who was PFC in its HQ Detachment, or a photo of any given group at Camp Lockett, given to a PFC who passed through this Camp for convalescence, demob or whatever reason and was therefore registered on its rolls as PFC HQ DET SCU 1906...

Screenshot_20210513-175309_Facebook.jpg Thanks Michel Sabarly and JimHerriot for helping me find out more. I wish I could have better picture or maybe finding more pictures, but my husband's grandma does not have any more information. The medals and metal ID tags he had from the late Schmidt were stolen many years ago. There are two more pictures from him in uniform but there are no insignias visible. Let me see if I can get a copy of those pictures and will share them.
I would like to thank all of you for helping me find a bit more about him.

He is in the picture...looking at the picture it is close to the middle to the left of the tree and under the branch of the pine tree-top row.
