good day tricky dicky.nov 18th.2013.11:40.re:construction detail for submarine pen roof.that's an amazing plan seen as a cutaway, the footings are carrying an amazing load.it would be interesting to know what tonnage of concrete is loaded on the footings.thanks for posting regards bernard85
Bernard If my translating is about right then the ground area of the pens was approx. 39,000m2 and the amount of concrete was approx. 480,000m3 It was built by the Todt organisation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organisation_Todt) and used labour from all over Europe. It is also interesting to read that they revised their construction during the war to take account of developments in the Allied bombs ie from 5000lbs all the way up to 'Tallboys'
good day tricky dicky.nov 20th 2013.09:42am.thank you for your informative reply.thats a lot of concrete.they stayed ahead of the allies bomb development.regards bernar85
