      Bernard.

Always look back to my Fathers generation with respect and emotion for what they endured in the Great War. Their bravery exploited and the conditions brought about by long continual trench warfare was sheer hell.

When I hear "Its a Long Way to Tipperary" it fills me with weary sadness as I picture the lads returning yet again to their trenches to face the horrors of these forlorn attacks for a few yards of ground. I used to enjoy singing these old First World War songs during the early days of the WW2 when my mates started a sing-song. After I had been in action, had a new realisation what my Father and his generation had faced.

      Best wishes to you, Bernard.
