Friday 21st February 1941 FARMER, Henry C, Ty/Lieutenant, RNVR, killed [SWANSEA (MORRISTON) CEMETERY] Minesweeping Trawler HMT Silja. He is noted by naval-history as being killed by German bombing at Swansea. Was he killed onboard the trawler or killed ashore? Any ideas? Regards, Steve

Buried at Morriston Cemetery. Son of Henry Theodore Stahl Farmer, MA, and Annie Louise Farmer; husband of Kay Silvia Farmer, of Botley, Hampshire. F.R.I.B.A. ** Not a civilian but listed in register of civilian deaths. From October 1923 he studied at Edinburgh College of Art and Regent Street Polytechnic and from 1926 to 1930 he attended the Royal Academy Schools. During the latter period he assisted in the office of Hugh Satchel in London, mainly working on domestic commissions and transferred in 1928 to the office of Sir Frank Baines where he worked on offices. During his vacations he travelled and made drawings in Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and Spain. He was elected ARIBA in late 1930 or early 1931, his proposers being Frank Baines, Frederick Chatterton and Alfred Cox(?). By 1937 Farmer had been elected FRIBA and at that time was a partner in the practice Sutcliffe, Taylor & Farmer. However his career was cut short. He served as a Ty Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Voluntary Reserve and was killed in action on the Silja at some point during the Second World War.
