Hey everybody! For some time now, I've been looking for some detailed information regarding the crossing of the Meuse river by the 60th infantry regiment. Iv been searching the web for some time now,and besides a couple of small articles regarding the subject I haven't found any thing.. I'm looking for documents a little more detailed then the articles mentioned, preferably after actions reports, and even better after actions reports on battalion level. The events occured (roughly) From 3rd of September 1944 til 7th of September 1944. Hope someone can help me out! Thanks In advance!
The World War II Operations Reports, 1940-1948 in the Records of the Adjutant General’s Office (Record Group 407) and located regimental histories for 1940 - December 1945; history of campaigns (Maknassy & Sedjenane) for March 22 - April 9, 1943 and April 16 - May 19, 1943 respectively; and after action reports for June 11, 1944 - September 1945 of the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. I found a document that may help you….. This is a study done by: Major John Garrett United States Army It’s a study on Plans That Survive First Contact……..AND the best part is he uses the 9th Infantry Divisions plan and the actual combat as the STUDY EXAMPLE for the Actions on the The 9th Inf Div Crossing of the Meuse River, 1944, starting on the 3nd Sept 44. The whole study is a good read (a little dry, but hey, that’s military writing, it’s NOT fiction) “What Actually Happened” starts on page 23 https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADA383584.pdf
This seems the most interesting... However I live in the Netherlands.. so visiting the library isn't a option. But is it really that simple you to send an email and they will send me the documents??
Well it depends on how cooperative they are. Sometimes I have asked and they send (no charge)…….sometimes I’ve had to hire a private researcher and paid him to photo the files…….all you can do is ask, worst they say is “no”
