Many years ago I had a look at the history of the Wiltshire Yeomanry. My great uncle (Stan Peppiat) had a copy and he showed me an entry in it that told how he got his MM in Africa.

Does anyone have a copy of this book and let me know what it says, please?

Not seen the book, but they supported my friend John Dray's battalion - 5th Northants - at Montegabbione in June 1944. I have a copy of the war diary for that period. Was your relative still with them then?

Paul - As far as I know, Stan started his career (pre-WW2) with the 13th/18th Hussars before transfering to the WY with whom he served in Africa and then Italy.

I really don't know anymore than that, Stan died in 1995 and I never really got to talk to him about his service (or another relative who I've just discovered had been an RM Commando!)

    Cheers mate :)

    Lee,

I believe the book you are referring to is one that I once had in my library. It was by P.W.Pitts and entitled:
Royal Wilts - The history of the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, 1920 -1945

A quick check with US used- book sellers has come up blank - may be worth trying in the UK.

Gerry - Thanks for that, I'll keep my eyes peeled for it or try to get my library to find a copy.

No worries, only took 6 years and 1 day from your original query to get that result.

    Yes, well done Owen!

And, yes Paul, I'm still around! Got married 2 years ago, had the honeymoon in the Salient (don't know if you remember but I proposed to Jean at the Menin Gate just after the last Post and right next to the Gordon Highlanders names).
More aches, more pains and a few years older!!
