Some time ago I posted something on this forum about being very interested in the day-to-day lives of those (like my dad) posted to North Africa and Italy; e.g. what sort of things they did when not under attack, and how they passed the time.

I'd never met Ron, but within an hour we were talking over the phone like a couple of long lost friends. It was a conversation I had never had with my own dad. What a generous, friendly, remarkable man.

As others have said, he has left a rich legacy of information from what is probably the most important period in 20th century European history.

Its our job now to keep it safe for future generations.

    Thank you Ron.

Over the years I have seen Ron as what might be said as the father of the forum. His forum contributions were renown for historic value from the personal advantage of "I was there"

Without doubt his posts reflected what I would think were excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to debate on a wide range of subjects that were raised on the forum. Always helpful and cordial to others, he will be missed by the forum.

To my regret I was never able to meet him.

Condolences to Ron's family and friends.
