These war diary entries for June 1944 cover the period from when the 1st South Lancashire Regiment muster in Portsmouth as part of operation OVERLORD to its landing on Queen Red beach to its occupation of Le Landel in Normandy. Appendix 'A' is a map of Queen Beach showing positions of the COD and TROUT strongholds. The National Archives source reference for these diaries is "WO 171/1332", "1st South Lancashire Regiment, 1944". June is one month in that one file which spans the whole of 1944.
In memory of Major Peter Augustus Edward Watson of Windsor and the Eton Excelsior Rowing Club, killed in action on 27th February 1945 during the Battle of the Reichswald.
