    Hi,
I have found surprisingly little on the forum about the British involvement in Norway in 1940, so, I accept this may be a very long shot! I was hoping that someone could point me in the direction to sources that cover the involvement of de Wiart's Maurice Force, specifically the role of 1/4 King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in that campaign. The very few mentions that I have found online contradict each other regarding dates, places and casualties. I can see that the Bn War Diary in WO 168/61 is likely to be worth consulting but I have also seen reference to a (very) small volume published immediately after the war called The War History of the 1/4th Bn The KOYLI by G C W Harland - has anyone read this book? If so, does it cover Norway or just focus on 1944-45?
    Any thoughts gratefully received!
    Many thanks,
    Col

Here are the pages regarding the 1s/4th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry's service in Norway from the regimental history, Hingston, Lieut.-Col. W. Never Give Up Being: The History of The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Volume V: 1919-1942 London: Lund Humphries, 1950.

On a tourist trip to North Norway near Geiranger I was told about a true story of an RAF and a Luftwaffe aircraft attacking each other and after the war the pilots became friends.
It exists a Swedish film. title: Into the white.

Yes, I remember seeing that movie when it came out on DVD but had not heard the tale until then.

If you have the chance to visit the sight, stand outside the house looking at the glacier, close you eyes and dream of the fighting.:plane:
