    Dear ladys and gentlemen,
the Lancaster DC268 crashed at 22:53 in a small wood in the village Hagstedt near Vechta! Witness Mr. Aka and his friend from Hagstedt showed me the crash site for about 6 years. Today I explored the crash site with my metal detektor and I found only some metal parts. The forest was reforested, very difficult to explore this area..The war cemetry Sage where the crew members are buried is very near the crash place. We are a small group of german aircraft researcher and we make this job unsalaried. We are not wreckhunters. We are involved in many fates of crewmembers and I have many contact to relatives worldwide. When you have questions you can sent me an email to

My mother's cousin was Sgt William Rowand, who died on this mission. I would like to mention my appreciation to the posters on this thread for the detailed information on the fate of DV268.

From the National Archives I also obtained the ORBs (Records of Events + Summary of Events) for Nov. 1943, which did not tell me much more than www.156squadron.com/101Sqn but which were interesting nonetheless.

If any posters happen to have further information on Sgt Rowand, of course I would be interested to learn of it. I don't hold out too much hope though as (if the information at http://www.156squadron.com/101Sqn/ is complete) it would have been only his second mission.

Hello and thank you everyone who has participated in supplying all the information contained in this thread. It is a wonderful collection of information about the fate of my uncle.

Carole, Leonard Arthur Crooks was my uncle, my mothers brother. Uncle Len was born in 1923 and was 15 years older than my mother so she was only 5 years old when he died. Sadly I never had the opportunity to meet him and my mother only has vague memories. Uncle Len was one of four children to my grandparents Louisa Jane Pretoria and Stanley Crooks. My auntie Winnifred, uncle Stanley and my mother, Janet Elizabeth (the youngest) are all still alive. I have a photograph of my grandparents with some of their children but if I remember correctly, Uncle Len is not in the picture. I will locate it from the attic and let you know.

By the way, my name is Mike Small. My mother married my father Peter Small in 1956 and I was born on 6th March 1959 (shortly to reach the ripe old age 56).

I am now left wondering how we are related? Perhaps you can work it out and let me know.

    Best regards,

    Mike

Hi John, My Grandad was Sgt. William Rowand (my mothers father), who was shot down on a Berling bombing raid on 22/11/1943. I would apreciate anything you have learnt about his mission his squadron and especially about him. I have just joined Ancestry.co.uk and would like to add some facts about him and his death. He died when my mum was a baby. She is not very literate on the web and would love to tell her about her father. sorry if i have typed this post in the wrong place this is the first forum i have joined.

Hello, My name is Barry Morgan-Timms and I am the nephew of DENNIS TIMMS. I have been following the thread and I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge or photographs of Dennis? My father never spoke of his brother and I have very little information except this thread.

BBC Look North (Yorks and Lincs) did a short feature tonight marking the recent 100th birthday of Rusty Waughman DFC AFC and his receipt of a card from the King; also noted at:

I am John Jossa, son of John Jossa, the only survivor from DV268 shot down 26th November, 1943.
I'm afraid I have to let you know that John (Curly) Ormerod , the flight engineer on Rusty's crew, died last year.
Curly was also the engineer on Paul Zanchi's crew, Dad was the navigator. Curly was on leave the night they were shot down. He then joined Rusty's crew and completed the tour with them.

I didn’t realise that, we’ve lost another good man there. Thanks for letting me know.
