Just picked up this Service Book to 1083026 Stanley Rickman Jones, mainly as he spent a bit of time in the "Lanarkshire Yeomanry" Battery (one of my local regiments) which got lucky being separated from the rest of 155th (Lanarkshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment when it was sent to Singapore and lost - the LY Battery was then attached to 51st Field and was with them when they moved over to become Chindits.

While I went for this one because of the local connection, their is the hope he was a Chindit as well, the bit I'm unsure about is that his tracer card has a few x list type entries around the time the 51st were in action on Operation Thursday and from Thomas Thompsons book about the Regiment some of the specialists who were considered valuable assets were sent off to the holding depot rather than being sent into action and I'm not sure if Jones was one. I'm hoping someone who is more clued up on tracer cards and x lists etc has some thoughts

    Hi Alistair,

Nothing for you I'm afraid when searching the 51st War Diary 1944. Chindit Old Comrades records did have a C. B. Jones from Coventry who served with 51st FR RA, close, but no cigar.

    Cheers

    Steve

Thanks for checking Steve, I'm inclined to think he wasn't involved but it's probably another where the full story will only come out when the records get released and I'll keep my fingers crossed its a pleasant surprise when that day comes

So difficult to assess movements around that time Alistair. Men were moving all over the place, changing units and being transferred, or in the case of 51 FR RA, laying down their guns and fighting as infantry.

I think I've got about 5-6 others that may have been Chindit's, time will tell
