As Chris hasn’t signed into the forum for over 3 years I’ve sent him a message to alert him to your post.

    Justin,

Thank you for the post. Grandad was a man mountain and a well loved postman in Sidmouth Devon in his final years. I lost him 48 years ago but I still have his medals and a SS dagger he brought home on my desk so I will never forget.

HI Steve - thank you for lettting Chris know - and wonderful to hear that Chrs keeps the memory of Sgt Lucas alive- besides the incredible bravery, what stands out for me is that he'd been under fire for 14 days. I'm hoping you may be able to point me in the right direction - but also appreciate that you may not have the time - I'm hoping to find out a bit more about the 105 anti tank and where my fathher served. He spoke very little of what he saw and did of his 5 years (towards the end of his life he did document an event that occurred after the surrender in Austria that affected him deeply). But I'd like to find out more on the movements and enagements of the 105 in Italy . If you could refer me to any sources I'd be very grateful - but of course understand if this is not something you do. Regards Justin

    Hi,

I have no personal knowledge of the unit.

A simple Google search turns up several internet hits.

Your best bet will be to start a new topic with your fathers name and 105 Anti Tank Regt in the topic title as that will attract interest from members.

I see your father was SA but you need to clarify whether he was a member of the British Army or a member of the SA Defence Force attached to 105 A Tk. Your response will answer the question of where your fathers service records are held - either by UK MOD or in SA archives. Obtaining his official service record ought to be the starting point for your research.

Once you have firm dates for his time with 105 A Tk you can search for the unit war diaries. Forum member Chris C posted pages from the WD on this topic and he may have others he can share but if not UK National Archives hold copies -

Royal Artillery: 105 Anti-Tank Regiment (RA A/Tk Regt) | The National Archives

Several forum members offer a look up and copy service at rates much less than NA prices. As your father was Adjutant he most likely wrote the WD.

    Good Luck

    Steve
