    "MURDER OF CORPORAL SYMONS IN P.G. 57 GRUPIGNANO BY ITALIAN CARABINIERI."

    L/Corporal Warnes was in Campo PG 57 GRUPIGNANO, from 2/12/42 to 8/9/43.

    Of the 4 results from a CWGC search for SYMONS buried in ITALY, only one falls within the correct timeframe and has the rank of Corporal. Service records, confirm identification below:

    "Udine was entered by troops of the 6th Armoured Division on 1 May 1945, the day before the German surrender in Italy. Burials in Udine War Cemetery include casualties from the last few days of the war in Italy, some earlier prisoner-of-war and air force casualties, later garrison burials and some made from 70 British General Hospital which was at Udine for several months from May 1945."
