During the attack on GRICHEL OUED on 22nd April his Platoon was fired at from a flank by an Anti-Tank Gun firing High Explosive Shell and a heavy Machine Gun. Without waiting for orders he immediately wheeled right handed with his Platoon and led them in a most courageous manner across three hundred yards of completely open country to assault these enemy positions. Ten of the enemy were killed in this attack, 30 prisoners were taken and both guns were thereby put out of action. By this courageous action in broad daylight his Company was enabled to reach its objective without undue losses. The above incident is typical of this Officer's conduct both in the initial attack on 22nd April against Point 134 and in the subsequent attack on DJEBEL BOU AOUKAZ on 27th April during which he was wounded. Signed G.C. GORDON-LENNOX, D.S.O., Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 5th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS Granted an Immediate M.C.
