Currently researching the 1st Battn Irish Guards which ceased to exist after its mauling at Anzio in 1944. With a view to reenacting, I am looking for any good pics if any exist of the Irish Guards in Italy, specifically looking for proper insignia and pics of battledress etc. I believe the 24th armoured Brigade of which the Irish Guards formed part had a white triangular flash on the sleeve, but havent been able to get any good close up of this as yet...
    Any help much appreciated....

Irish Guard was part of 24th Guards Infantry Brigade not 24th Armoured Brigade. White triangular flash was sign of 1st Infantry Division and Brigade was part of this division during Anzio landing. Original sign of 24th Brigade is this one (sorry I don't have better picture):

    Diane,

Is Corporal Doak a dispatch rider by any chance? They look like some kind of riding breeches his wearing?

Thought it odd myself. I have no note about him, but for such a posed photo to take place, I wondered if it was near Bn HQ.
