Hi everyone, Could anyone tell me what the 1st batt Queens royal (west surrey) regiment were getting up to at the beggining of 1945 in burma please. As my uncle served with them. Does anyone know where i could get a copy of their war diary aswell. Thanks, Donnie
What period exactly - they were resting in India up to March 1945 after there involvement in fighting in 1944. They were part of 33 Indian Infantry Brigade of the 7th Indian Division. You may wish to ask your library to get hold of a copy of "Golden Arrow: The Story of the 7th Indian Division in the Second World War 1939-1945" by M R Roberts (buying it would be expensive at £50+)
Thanks for the replys guys. The info is great, Owen i have sent a couple of emails to some of the veterans on the Burma Star Association website. so fingers crossed. Thanks, Donnie
Get in touch with the Surrey Archives at Guildford-I believe they now hold all the papers and photographs for the Queens Royal Regiment
My dad was in the 1st queens west surrey but he started off in the west kent regiment wonder why he ended up in the surrey regiment anybody no why
Anybody no about queens west surrey regiment burma and can some one tell me if they can read my message
Yardboy - your messages can be seen and read would suggest initially you follow the advise given above, it would also be a good idea to obtain the service records for your father the link for that is https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records#how-to-apply-for-service-personnel-records TD
You can add pictures either directly into the post/reply, or if you go to the top right hand corner to your username, click on the downward arrow you can open up 'Your Gallery', this allows you to add pictures in the form of a gallery for either 'public' viewing or not as the case may be. TD Re Service records you say you have been there for his service number, but have you applied and received his service records from the MOD?
yardboy, 1. are you in possession of his service records? 2. if not have you applied for them? 3. I am not a technophobe (if thats the word) and do not possess an iphone so I have no experience of whether or not you can download 'pics' from one or not. Perhaps others on the forum have more experience. TD
When you get a copy of his service records give me a shout and I'll list the unit war diaries for the units he served with that are available at the National Archives. Andy
