Have you found the following which covers this period
    Arakan
I have two SLI names that I can place in the above on the 01/03/44, Arthur Dick (KIA) and Ken Farr (wounded but still living in Somerset).

    Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member and I've just been reading through the thread and noticed that some members have photographs of the SLI 1st battalion, which my granfather was a private in.

I've been trying to trace my grandfathers movements whilst in Burma. I know that he was killed on the 26th/27th of January 1944, I'm assuming it was during the assault overnight on that date.

I also know that he enlisted at some point during 1942. His name was Joseph Bradley. I know that he has a grave at the Rangoon War Memorial on face 7.

If anyone has any information and/or pictures relating to the regiment or to my grandfather I would truly appreciate it.

    Thanks ever so much

    Joe

It's a fantastic photographic history, probably the best family collection I've seen. The photos of the funeral Cpl. Dalhousie are amazingly atmospheric considering the age of the images.

My uncle Walter Francis Savage was killed whilst serving with C company of the Somerset Light Infantry in the Arakan in February 1944. His death is mentioned in the excerpt from Private Elgar's book which is available on the internet. If anyone can tell me where to obtain the book or has any more information about my uncle or C Company I should be very grateful to receive it.

Although an officer of the Somerset Light Infantry, Maj Pickett was killed at Broadway while commanding a Company of 3/9 Gurkha Rifles.

I have a relative who died in 1944/45, named Reginald Ashard. I believe that he is in a war grave in India but there is no mention of him in the Roll of Honour. Does anyone have any details on this please? I do have his army number somewhere, if that is of any help? Other than that, I only know he was in SLI, 1st Battalion and had fought in Burma.
