Hello, I am just reading the 4th Lincoln’s war diary and it mentions for the 25th June (Operation Martlet), additional troops under command “One tp SP 234 A tk bty” I assume this stands for four self propelled anti tank guns. What regiment was 234 part of and which vehicle/type of guns were they using, 17 pounder? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards Allan
This says one of their batteries had the M10. RA 1939-45 73 A/Tk Rgt 234 Bty was indeed part of 73 AT Regt see here 73rd Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery in the Second World War 1939-1945 - The Wartime Memories Project - 73rd Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery was initially made up of 195th, 196th and 198th Batteries, with 234th Battery joining later.
Thank you very much for your reply. However, I am specifically looking for 234’s vehicles and gun caliber. I don’t want to just assume that they had the M10. It is for a book I am writing on the complete taking of Hill 112 from Op Marlet to Op Express. Kind Regards Allan
Another thread that says they had M10. 73 Anti-Tank Regt.RA Ask Sheldrake where he got his info from.
Thank you very much for the link. The IWM recording of Frederick Neville Howel of 234 states that they had the standard M10 tank destroyer with the 3 inch gun, so not the upgraded 17 pounder M10 Achilles. Kind Regards Allan
