I’m a CWGC Foundation volunteer and I’m helping with a tour of Perth (Jeanfield & Wellshill) Cemetery during War Graves Week on 21st May. Just wondering if anyone can help with this WW2 casualty?

Lots of casualties to cover in the time available so can only give a brief account; would just like to find out the circumstances of his death.

Major John William Herbert Morgan | War Casualty Details 23905 | CWGC
Grave Ref. Jeanfield Sec K, 207 Major John William Herbert Morgan, MC & Bar, Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) and Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, died 17th October 1940, aged 44.

Son of David and Isobel of Clakmannanshire,, and husband of Margaret Mary Allan Morgan, nee Page of Perth.

The Major was a pupil at Dollar Academy, and served in both world wars. He was awarded his MC for “great gallantry and ability” during an action on October 1917 in Le Cateau, France. He led his battalion in successfully attacking a machine-gun post, and the citation states that “during the whole action, he showed marked courage”

    Many thanks,
    Dave

Not a lot of help, but this provides a location:

Casualty list states 'Died' as opposed to accidently killed etc.

Thank you Clive and Tony56. This is perfect!

I always think when doing these tours that it’s enough to stop at their graves, say their names and pause to remember them. Being able to add some details of their service or their family, however little, adds that special something to the tour. Very grateful for this information.

    We Will Remember Them.

Tony56, do you by any chance know which newspaper the articles come from?

    Cheers,

    Thanks again Tony!

Thought I’d attach a couple of photos which I took of the War Memorial at Dollar Academy. Thanks to the efforts of their archivist John Morgan’s name and the names of three other former pupils were added to the memorial in January 2022.
