    Re. Corporal A.D. Carmoodie - 2563610

"B" Squadron of the 24th Lancers

He is mentioned on p99 of NHL as the commander of one of the tanks in a "B" Squadron troop of the 24th Lancers around the 17th June 1944.

Corporal A.D. Carmoodie - seems to be absent from both the 24th L wounded and the Nominal roll at disbandment. He was perhaps wounded and it will turn out to have been noted elsewhere, or promoted and/or transferred to another unit prior to the 24th L being disbanded - however despite trying - Carmoodie 2563610 - nothing on Google currently... though something might turn up somewhere eventually...

And you still see / hear people pointing out that the 24L were "yet to fight"... prior to Normandy... ;-)

    Re. Lieutenant R.C.Wright...

He appears on the Nominal roll at disbandment, however doesn't seem yet to be referenced elsewhere. He possibly joined the 24th Lancers extremely close to the point when they were disbanded.

Transferred to "HQ" 11th Armoured Division on the disbandment of the 24th Lancers.

    FB_IMG_1655900965924.jpg

Both 321388 & 421388 perhaps seem possible, however...
    321388 - Notices | All Notices | The Gazette...
    John BREEN (321388)

    421388 - Notices | All Notices | The Gazette...

Brian John DAVIS (421388) - albeit in the 1950's.

It is perhaps possibly - 421388 - and earlier, under "Wright" in the 1940's - but for some reason has not been picked up by the London Gazette's pdf transcription.

    Some other... "close results"...
    R. C. WRIGHT (42038). Ronald Charles. - although RAF.
    R. C. WRIGHT (78336).
    Major R. C. Wright (7063).
Quite odd though, at the moment not to see anything closer.

    Re. Lt. J. Burns - (262274)

He is in the London Gazette - albeit as James Burn... rather than "Burns"...

    19 MARCH, 1943 page 1305
    ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS.

And in the Nominal roll at disbandment...

As returning to the UK on the disbandment of the 24L for further training...

    Re. Trooper D.(Don/Doug) F. Cochrane - 7931160 - aka "Peggy"

Gunner/mechanic in 5th Troop of "B" Squadron of the 24th Lancers.

Wounded with the 24th Lancers in Normandy - 25d6m1944.

Subsequently posted to Brussels to a holding unit, training new recruits on the tank guns and then as a courier, posted at 21st army group HQ.

    As "Doug Cochrane"...

    BBC - WW2 People's War - Being Conscripted in WW2 - by Doug Cochrane

    And re. being wounded...
"We had small battles for a few days. During one of the battles, Epson in the area of Tessel Wood, our tank received a hit, which fortunately five of us scrambled out alive. We jumped in a big ditch, tank trapped, to escape; the driver was badly injured in the head and unconscious. The co-driver was burnt and lost his glasses but capable of walking. Fortunately the tank commander, radio operator and myself were reasonably safe. I was able to help the others back to our own lines."
