    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/34764/supplement/10/data.pdf

He was the Chaplain of the 24th Lancers in 1940 - apparently - according to a later Newspaper source detailing his career - although given the inception of the 24L was in December 1940 that doesn't leave much of a "window" - for him in the role...

This seems to place him as Vicar of Helpringham in December 1941 -

Re. Trooper / Corporal Wilfred John Gillman - 7894274
According to the contemporary Newspaper reports on his death he was late of the "Royal Gloucestershire Hussars"
Driver/wireless operator in "B" Squadron of the 24th Lancers.
Nb. He appears as having been in "C" Squadron in one list, but this was perhaps a typo.

Capt. Saggers was in Semic when 3 men from my father’s B-24 crew arrived in July of 1944. They were airlifted out by C-47 on July24/25. Nels Benson was the OSS man in charge of the airstrip at Gajevi aka Donja Cemernica. Crew member John Hassan told me it was the same airstrip where Randolph Churchill and Evelyn Waugh were involved in the crash of a C-47 while they were in the area. The crewmen bailed out near Carole, Italy and walked into Slovenia and Croatia with the help of the friendly Italians and the Slovene Partisans. The attached escape statement mentions help from Major Nigel Watson(MI9?)and a Major Turner at a mission called Lockwood. If anyone has information about this mission I would like to learn more. Thank you!

There's a "9th Lancer" in - The Guns of Navarone...

The Guns of Navarone (novel) - Wikipedia

The Guns of Navarone (film) - Wikipedia

Major Roy Franklin - played by Anthony Quale... representing the 9th Lancers ;-)

He appears in the trailer, at around 45 seconds...

For reasons that don't appear to be explained, at least in the film itselt, but it was presumably a similar - albeit fictional - situation to that of Saggers and "special duties" etc.

Your best bet could almost certainly be to start a new thread entitled something like - "Any information on a mission called Lockwood?" - with perhaps an associated date i.e. mid 1944 etc. e.g. "Any information on a mission called Lockwood in 1944?" or similar.

    All the best, Rm.
