Hi I was hoping you guys could help me out. I'm from Cardiff in South Wales and doing a bit of research on Cardiff during the war.I knew that one of the local parks had an American camp on it but knew nothing else about it finally I found out that it was the 24th postal regiment and the 58th army postal unit i haven't been able to find out anything about these units anywhere though, so does anyone know anything about them? Who they were and what happened to them?
They might be in here - Alphabetical listing of APO's, January 1942 - November 1947 : United States. Adjutant-General's Office : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive American armed forces airmail during World War II: Part 1, 1941-43 http://www.machinecancel.org/forum/2007_04/new_apo_article.pdf APO 349 History & Markings Machine Mfg Ret Addr #/RA Location Value # /PM PM-die Xcler-die Year mmdd UN Model K 4182 US Army Plant 349 Newport, Wales VS 349 USA/PS 200 1944 1102i If you can find out the units then perhaps you can cross reference them to these APO numbers - APO Numbers of World War II US Army Groups, Armies, Corps and Divisions TD edited to add: Might be worth giving this museum a shout - Request Rejected it does work even though its name suggests otherwise
Thanks i found 3 Cardiff APO's which fits with what I'd read just got to try and work out what they mean now. Liam
As another option you could join our sister site in the USofA - WWII Forums they may be able to help further, there are some of them lurking around this site as well so they may reply to this thread. TD
