24th Guards Brigade, 1st British Division, 5 Corps
2698039 Guardsman John CHISHOLM, 1st Battalion SCOTS GUARDS

On 27th April, 1943, Guardsman CHISHOLM was in B Company, 1st Battalion SCOTS GUARDS and took part in the attack on DJEBEL BOU ARARA.

The Company under the Command of the late Captain The Lord LYRELL V.C. was held up in the foothills by heavy fire from an enemy post on the left, consisting of an 88 mm gun and a heavy Machine Gun.

His Company Commander calling on everyone of the Company no pinned by fire to follow him, led an attack on this post.

Guardsman CHISHOLM immediately followed, accompanied by Lance-Sergeant ROBERTSON, Lance-Corporal LAWRIE, and Guardsman PORTER. This gallant little band silenced the post, though manned by vastly superior numbers.

His gallant bearing an courage was noted throughout the battle and he lived up in a great way, to his courageous reputation, won in the Boxing Ring.

Signed M.E. St.J. BARNE, Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 1st Battalion SCOTS GUARDS

    Granted an Immediate M.M.
