When did he join the Bn ? 1940. I went to the Imperial war musuems reading room today, and read the history of the 56th Black Cat division. Its filled in a lot of the gaps that I had previously.. mainly because a lot of my old sources didn't register the fact that the 24th guards Bde had the 2nd coldstreams in it and not the 3rd (they amagimated into the new 2nd). After joining the forum, I'm more optimistic then ever that i'll be able to get a complete record of the 2nd Bat's journey through Italy. Its all up to the war diaries now.

Don't forget they were in Tunisia too, another trip for you sometime? Oh that's definitely in the pipeline in the near future. I'm lucky enough to be visiting italy quite a lot this year so i'm focusing on italy for now, i'll see if I can trace the battallion with the war diaries and get their exact locations, and then follow their footsteps, getting some new photos to compare with the old ones. Then I'll do it all over again for Tunisia. It's probably a good thing my grandfather wasn't in the 3rd Bat. I'd have to start in Egypt, and then go through lybia.... not to mention syria.
