    Hi all

And thanks Jason for starting this up for me.

My grandfather was a member of 2Para at Arnhem and I am now embarking on researching his war for a future book. His name was Ralph Baverstock.

    Many thanks

    David

    Hi wtid,

I have that book signed by Robert and some letters and a poster, I also had the pleasure of meeting Robert in 2004 in Arnhem over dinner... And yes The Para datebase is great...

    Cheers

Hey Tom I also have a signed copy of WT, and I wrote to Robert for a signed copy of No Surrender at Arnhem unaware that he has passed away, but I did get a unsigned copy with a very nice letter from his Widow.Cheers Jason

The above letter is Kingarthurs, from his profile along with some pics of his Grandad. I am pretty sure the signed name is that of Major A.D.Tatham- Warter OC A company 2 Para so if im right Daves Grandad was A company;)

    Hi Jason

Thanks for that, we were having trouble deciphering the signature at this end, that really has made my day.
Just found a load of info about Maison Carree, so trawling through that now.

    Cheers

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

I don't know if you have the full letter that Digby Tatham-Warter sent to your Grandmother. I was lucky enough to know a former member of 2 Para who also fought at Arnhem and when he passed away last year his wife was kind enough to let me copy the letter that she received at the same time as your Grandmother.
I have also looked at the photos of your Grandfather and I nearly fell off my chair when I looked at the group photo taken at Maison Carrie!
The fella sitting at the front on the left is almost certainly the guy I knew who's name was Harry Marshall!!
As I said, when he passed away his wife lent me some pictures and documents etc and said I could copy them. Take a look and see if you agree that, if it isn't Harry, then it must be his identical twin!!
I've also also attached the covering letter that Mrs. Marshall received.

    All the best..........

After studying the above photo and other photos that I have and getting my partner to double check, I can say with doubt that the man standing in the top row, number 13 from the left is Ralph Baverstock.

    Very emotional discovery, thanks Jason

    :p:p.
I've just been speaking to Dave and he has kindly agreed to let me show the pic to Harry's wife. As far as I know she doesn't know it exists so it could be quite emotional for her too.
I've also told Dave that I'd be happy to go through the books I have on 2 Para and see if his Grandad's name crops up anywhere.
Hopefully some of the other "Arnhem" nuts will catch this thread and throw their considerable knowledge into the ring! :D
    Best regards.........
