Hello, Here is my next question. I was going trough the 2nd Survey Regiments war diary and came across some, i presume, spot reports. I was trying to understand them I have a general idea but I need some confirmation. First it is good for me to understand what these reports are. I assume the survey regiments use their equipment to measure where shots fired by own artillery fell in order to adjust them on to the target. Second I see a couple of terms I would like to understand. The accuracy has scores A,B,C and Area. I understood Area means that its just a general terrain measurement but what A, B and C mean is unclear to me. I see the term or abbreviation of Long Base and Short Base I assume a Base refers to a position or positions from which these measurements where carried out? Then in the Appx 6 file there is a collumn which I cant clearly define. It seems to say number of rounds. Does anyone have a clue what is written there and why the number of rounds is relevant to the measurement while in most files it is not? Cheers, Remi
Take a look at Target Acquisition & Counter Bombardment This explains what they were doing and the normal codes for accuracy. Robin
Here is an extract from that website There were standard accuracies for HB locations, the following distance 'bands' from 'truth': J - 10 yards W - 25 yards Z - 50 yards A - 100 yards B - 200 yards C - 300 yards D - 400 yards
